Well, they say three's a crowd, I think it's cozy. So, here is my 3rd submission to the Stovebolt Gallery, a 1966 Chevy C60 Big Bolt named "Brutus"...
I have been looking for a larger truck for some time now, a 3/4 ton to a 1 ton that could be converted to a flat bed. After cruising the car lot's (too expensive) and the net, I couldn't find anything that I liked. I was looking for a newer truck. My wife and I discussed this issue and she figured I should look for an older stovebolt! That's when I discovered "Brutus" on Craigs List. It's a little larger than a 3/4 or 1 ton but I couldn't pass it up.
"Brutus" was a matainence truck for the city of Carlton Oregon, thus serviced well. The previous owner bought the truck to use on his farm and never did. After inspecting the truck I was surprised by the great condition it was in. No serious cancer anywhere, no bubbles under the original paint, just spots of surface rust only. The interior looks almost new and the engine runs well. I noticed right away that the interior floor has been Rino lined, also under the cab and fenders too. No rust!!! The truck has a flat bed that measures 8.75 feet by 7.5 feet. My only problem with Brutus is it's top speed of only 45 MPH due to it's low rear differential gear ratio. Brutus has a 292 six and a 4 speed tranny.
My plans for this truck are new paint, replace the wood in the flat bed, a new front bumper, and whatever it takes to make it drive faster. Maybe a 5 speed transmission with OD. Also, I plan to work this truck hauling lumber to build a new shop in Eastern Oregon, and to haul up to 2 tons of coal at a time for my blacksmith shop.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Brutus has 83,000 miles and I paid only $900 for him.
