My truck isn't a deluxe model. It's as basic as they come, so it doesn't have stainless trim and chrome knobs. Instead, mine are "bakelite", hard black plastic. The same holds for my blank-out buttons where the radio would go.

Over the years, they are get a brownish scale on them and have a cloudy look. I fixed it today with excellent results and offer my technique to anyone else having this condition.

First, I gently wet sanded especially tough deposits and paint overspray with 1200 grit sand paper.

Next, I applied a polishing compound to get a consistent surface. I followed this with my favorite glazing compound to get rid of any swirls and to get a really nice luster. The final product I used is Mother's Back To Black treatment to protect against oxidation, the cause of the discoloration in the first place.

My old knobs now look the same as the reproduction choke cable knob.
