Well, I've been running the truck in the driveway here everyday, letting it get up to temperature. It doesn't smoke now until it gets right up to temperature, then it smokes! This is also when the oil pressure drops, when it gets warm... Being the cheapskate that I am, I'm goin to switch to a 160 degree thermostat, as it has a 180 in it now. I usually run a 180 in the winter, and a 160 in the summer. I had the 180 laying here, so used it. When I change the oil, which will be soon, as its pretty ugly, and perhaps diluted from pouring gas down the carb to start it, I'm going to switch to heavier oil too.
I'm still at the "have-to-pour-a-little-gas-in-the-carb-to-start" stage, but it starts instantly, and runs idles fine.
I suspect my fuel pump fittings are seeping, and letting air into the lines. I also suspect my darn Rochester BC carb. What I can't figure out, is how the fuel gets into the accelerator pump. There appears to only be one little opening down there, and thats for pumping the gas up and out. Is the gas just supposed to suck into the well past the pump plunger gasket? This assumes that the level in the bowl is high enough for that, and also assumes this is how its supposed to work! Hahaha.
Other that this, things are progressing nicely. I even have the master cylinder now. The only thing I'm missing now, is one door lock clip. I'm pretty excited to have an ignition, instead of having to use a piece of wire with alligator clips.
I also have a pair of 50's volkswagen seats to mount in the rear, for that station wagon look!
