I am still new at all of this since buying my 1950 Panel through this site last summer. I have been doing research by means of links found here while identifying my 235 engine that came in the truck. Here is what I have:
Block casting: L284= Dec. 28, 1954 (therefore a 55).
02I8879F55XA=Unit number, Flint built, 1955. One link said that the XA made it a 3600 Thriftmaster from 1956?
My valve cover is with the two rods in the top, not four screws on the side. And my waterpump is the split like Patrick's says is 1955 1st series.
The head castings on drivers side: 3836848GM13
Hemmings says it is a 1956 235 according to their numbers. It has B82 and 848/850 in passenger side.
I realize that this is a hodgepodge of years and parts. Does all this seem to match up with what is known about casting numbers? This site has become my new home. I spend each night reading posts just to learn. Thanks for any help. Brian
