I'll try to answer your question anyway! These engines (216-261 or 228-302)are very sensitive to manifold or vacuum leaks. Check to see if you have a hose going from the manifold to the windsheild wipers, and if it is in good shape. Also check for any open vacuum ports amd plug em. I bet your engine will run much smoother.
