I got stuck about a mile from home on saturday and traced the fault to the fuel pump. No fuel was reaching the carb.
At home I removed the fuel pump (a new replacement from classic parts made in canada)opened it up expecting to see a torn diaphragm, but one of the valves fell out of the body! It was lying loose inside the pump! Therefore no ability to pump. It seems the valves are just pressed into the body and if you are unlucky like me you will get a dud. I hammered it in with a punch, but will also install a backup electric pump. These new parts one get these days quality are suspect. Anyway, thought you guys can find this helpfull.
