John, when you get a hold of Tom you might ask about a "new" not rebuilt carb. A friend of mine mentioned that he got a new one for a paltry ten additional bucks.

Worn throttle shafts will leak enough air so that you'll never be able to get a stable idle air setting.....a problem I found with most rebuilt 50 year old original carbs. I hope this doesn't turn you off on the H/W or C/W carbs....I would put them at the top of the list for things you could do to improve engine and drivability on our old trucks at a reasonable cost.
