I notched mine but the z idea is fine. I also had to cut a hole in the bed for the differental to come up thru. I then fabricated a new wood floor that is 2 1/2 inches higher. Used Mar-k rails and oak and s/s bolts from the local Menards.The whole thing is held in place by 4 bolts
