Well, I went to NAPA and came out with a stud kit. In it were, besides two studs, were three tall brass nuts, three "normal looking" brass nuts, and two (?) steel lock washers. I put one lock washer and a tall nut on the side without nuts and it pulled up tight. I also tightened the existing nuts on the other side, and all seems good again. At some point I'll replace the nuts on the other stud.
