Kary I had a similar problem with my 62 truck with the 235 c.i. engine. I traced it to a bad coil. I had spark at the coil but it was not strong enough. I bought a new coil for less than $20 and have had no more problrms. My truck would shut off when the old coil got hot. I would go the coil replacement route before replacing the gas tank.
