Forgive me if this has been covered before but I searched the archives and could not find exactly what I need.
I have a 47 speedometer out of a 3800. When I hooked up a new cable it squalled like crazy. I unhooked it and the cable by itself turned quietly. I took it apart and cleaned the gears and lightly oiled inside the housing where the cable goes in. I put it back in and it was quiet.
Now, the problem is that the needle looks like a compass in the Bermuda triangle and the odometer is off.
Does anyone have detiled instructions on how to correctly reassemble one of these? There is a spring that probably either has to be tight or relaxed, for instance. I don't mind tinkering but I need to know the tricks to get this thing right.
