Yes, the Pitman Arm attaches to the steering box. No need to remove it for what you are doing.The steering connecting rod attaches from the Pitman Arm to the tie rod. On the end of the connecting rod at the Pitman Arm you'll see a cotter pin thru a slotted nut. Remove the cotter pin and back off the slotted nut. This will loosen it enough to lift off the Pitman Arm attaching ball. After years of use it might take a little effort to disengage it from the ball. Correcting myself a little: The "slotted nut" is actually a threaded plug, not a nut at all.
