I'm a bit confused by your reply Geoff. I don't think there is a yoke (e.g., from a U-joint) on the rear of my truck, so dropping the drive shaft appears to be more involved.

I guess the simpler question is, what is the procedure for separating the torque tube from the differential in my '54? Is that a big deal? I'll probably have to take the whole thing apart to really understand how everything goes together, but I'm trying to figure out how big a deal it is.

In this case, the smallish leak is making for a good excuse to get in there and inspect the whole drive train! Pictures/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
