This is my oil filter canister on my 1952 GMC 228 motor.
It is approx 7 inches tall, 4 1/2 inches in diameter and about 14 inches in circumference.

Check out the top of this page which shows what GMC engines were offered in what models in what years. The 1953 1/2 ton model would be the 101-22.
http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/page0015.html I also looked at the right side of a 248 in my GMC maintenance manual and the 248 filter is shorter and mounted higher and more mid engine. Definitely looks different than a 228 filter.
I think the ebay filter looks a lot like mine and probably came from a 228 GMC motor.
Does it also fit other motors? Don't know.
The ebay seller mentioning the 216 and the 235 could mean, as Tim alluded to, that he is one more person who doesn't know that GMC had their own line of engines during this period.
