Most people just bolt the plate directly to the bumper using the factory holes. I thought the factory holes positioned the plate too high on the bumper, and also made it vulnerable to being bent. So I fabricated a simple steel ¼” thick plate that bolts to the original holes, and drilled two more holes lower down directly through the bumper to attach the license. These photos show the stock location, the bare plate, and with the license plate installed. To me it looks much more balanced and the mounting plate provides great reinforcement for the license.
