I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, after letting my truck sit through the winter. The truck would run at idle, but when I gave it more gas, it would choke and die. I called one of my friends who told me to clean out my carb float bowl. So I pulled the cap off my carb by where the fuel line goes in. There is a tubular shaped screen, I pulled it out, sprayed it out with carb cleaner, reinstalled the screen, and the problem was gone. It happened a couple more times in the first mile of driving. So I repeated the process. I have not had a problem since.
