not clear how the suction side of the pump would "blow off" the hose, more likely to collapse that side - the water pump fittings don't really have barbs, at most just a bit of a ridge on the end, might be that you just didn't have the clamp tight enough? .... if the hose you got seems 'wimpy' it probably is one that should have a coiled wire inside, meant to prevent collapsing, not sure about 51, but the hoses with 'springs' inside were original some years - that might have been what happened, the hose collapsed and that let it come loose
