Many thanks to you all for the information. Since a front plate is not required here in SC andd it will not match the rear plate, I guess it doesn't matter which side I mount it. Fortunately, new repro brackets are available from many sources.
Just purchased a 1952 3100 a few weeks ago and have been enjoying it. It underwent a complete restoration about 15 years ago but has seen plenty of use since then. As a matter of fact, the guy I bought the truck from drove it from CA to NC about ten years ago when he and his wife moved.
