How are the springs attached to the housing? I have a '49 and the previous owner had the original housing but changed the pumpkin to make it an open driveline and also changed the ring and pinion, making it a mix of pre-55 post 55 rear end. For GMC the rear axle should be a H-033 (for either open or closed driveline, the pumpkin change for each case). If originally open driveline, the springs seat should be welded to the housing, if close, the seat should pivot on a bushing resting on two plates welded to the housing. I what you want is ratio, better count your teeth.
