What method are you using to adjust the valves? For hydraulics, you don't set them with a feeler gauge, you set each one at it's proper closed state by backing off until there is clearance, and then turning down a 1/4 of a turn. Once it is running, adjust them down 1 1/2 from ticking clearance. Some people like to do the 1 1/2 turns with the static adjustment.
