I have a 1952 GMC 3/4 ton pickup. It is a faded red color. It's not all original. It had an amateur restoration. I would consider the quality of the resto as somewhat poor, but I bought it because it was completely rust free. The motor's not original, in fact it has a 350 in it. And the 350 is tired and needs a rebuild. But it's a fabulous truck to drive and very fun; we all love it.

This guy at work offered me $4000 for it. I turned it down. He even came back and questioned my decision, saying that was an extremely fair price, considering the rough condition of the truck. Well, I looked it up on NADA's website, and he wasn't far off the mark. It shows a low retail value of $5000, so that offer was almost correct.

I went home thinking, shoot, I need to do some work on that old truck. If I even give it a 20-footer paint job and rebuild the motor so it runs better, that alone would boost the value to $13,600; so it's money very well invested. I don't think I'll ever have the truck on the high end of retail value...not unless I swapped back in an original motor and made every attempt at taking it back to factory.

No questions. I just wanted to open a topic for discussion. Tell me what you think, your feelings on resto versus restification. Or even if you like my truck or think it's garbage... I don't mind.
