Newport sells a switch shaft extension, the description says it will accept the original knob.
Newport Link I dont know if that extension will work in your application, or if it will keep the jam nut off the dash
I mounted my modern switch under the dash and ran a remote cable to it.
I have a few underdash pics in this folder
..pics... I used a reproduction knob and original escusion.
