I know this has been discussed, but hopefully I am not recovering something. Our 53-62 Corvette Club has a Tech Session twice a year, and the one speaker today discussed the Ethanol issue here in California. In a nut shell, the gas stinks, and when mixed with Ethanol, and the water that it absorbes, creates Salitic Acid. In vehicles that are not often driven, this attacks exposed internal Pot Metal ( Carburetors, Fuel Meters etc)and erodes fuel and vacumne lines. Back in the early 90's, GM had issues with some sort of Injection nozzles being eaten up, until they converted them to plastic. They sent out an internal memo to use Automatic Trany fluid in your gas tank. Our Corvette tanks are small, and they recommend 1/2 quart to a tank of gas. It stops the erosion, softens fuel lines and vacumne lines to keep them from cracking, and will not foul out plugs. When I lived back east, to park them for the winter, we would bring it up to a fast idle, and pour it down the carb until smoke, and then shut it down. Next spring fired right up, no problems. Just new nonsynthetic Tranny Fluid.
