I'm in the process of tearing into my 46 2 ton and I've opened up the transfer case to find a great surprise, the gears were new. Today I took the rear off the 2 speed differential and was surprised to find the gears new, or at least like new, after the guy I bought it from said it was worn out, but the problem came when I found out the driveline free spins (I turn the driveline and the gears move but don't seem to lock with the tires) at this point I tried moving the shifter knob which clicked solidly and with relative ease after removing the mud, but it still free spun. Is this correct? How do I get it to lock with the axel? Is there something broken? There are no metal shavings in the oil and everything moves smoothly with no grinding or resistance that would be expected if something was broken. Can someone explain this to me? I added pictures so hopefully they upload correctly.
