I think it might be more of a case of getting used to the pedal arrangement on the older trucks compared to the late models where the brake and gas are almost level with each other. I've personally never had an issue with space in any AD or TF truck I've ever driven, and I'm 6'4", pushing 300#, and wear size 14 Red Wings.
