| | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 126 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 126 | My '42 has a 216 that was rebuilt not long before it was set aside due to brake issues 30 years ago. The PO almost sold the head and removed it before deciding not to part the truck out...it sat that way for 30 years exposed to some moisture. When I received the truck the piston were froze yet I was able to free it up soaking the cylinders with PB blaster etc.. Question is, this will be a farm truck not a complete restoration. I want to determine if the engine will run and was thinking of installing the head with the old gasket(which is cracked in places) and filling with fresh oil and running just long enough to check running condition. Is this a bad idea? Any input would be appreciated.
