I think welding cross members on a frame is a no no. For a fancy race car, or a show car its fine. But there is a reason that GM riveted those frames. And there is a reason KW and Peterbuilt bolt them together. Welding something the welded stucture needs to be properly reinforced to minumize stress that will crack and fatique the welded area, constant flexing will do that. In other words if your going to weld it, then it needs to be designed differently than the factory did it. I think bolting with grade 8 or higher is the best option.
