Jon - see sect 9-3 in the shop manual .... your tie rod should have the ends threaded on and there will be a right and left hand thread as Tim mentioned above, that's how the toe-in alignment is made - they also have the bolted clamp to hold the position they're set at .... best to replace the whole end
