They did put Engine Serial No. tags on Hydra-Matic's in 54... Here is what it looks like on the truck ...

If you have a manual transmission it my not have an Engine Serial No. tag like mine ...

When the CHP officer inspected my truck in the early 90's this is what he looked for so it could be registered because the DMV said the truck had fallen of their records...
