Olive1, if you watch ebay you will find old stock shoes with asbestos friction or asbestos linings that you can have installed on your shoes. Asbestos is a much more effective friction matertial for brakes and clutches than the so called "Organic" friction that has been manyfactured since about 1980.
I put asbestos pads and shoes on my street rod roadster and it was like adding a power booster compared to "organic".
