well that would kind of make sense, because in the newrer trucks by newer I mean 50, 55, trucks you have to somestimes shim the door hinges to get them to fit right also. But at least the template would get the hinges in the right place to begin with. As far as the hinge recess depth goes. That would depend on the thickness of your hinge. The chisel is what I use and your right patience. if you go to deep with the chisel on your hinge recess it will be a pita to get back right.
