I started the process of hanging the doors after getting a hinge problem (or two) fixed. I had tried a "fitting" when I put the wood pieces (some new, some original) together and the doors fit tight, but they did go in the openings. Now that the metal facades have been added, they don't fit, and I since three of the four sides of the opening are new wood, and the side where the latches are is original, the opening dimensions changed enough to where I will have to do some modifications. The obvious solution is that the hinge recesses in the pillar are not recessed enough. I suspect they need to go somewhere between 1/8 to 1/4 inch deeper. A chisel and patience should do the job. I think my initial question of a template is going to be redundant. This is going to be a case of getting them installed and shimming to reduce the gaps in the door as needed. It sure is not like fitting a modern door!!! Thanks again for all the help.
