Most likely the person at the Oregon DMV does not know (and does not care) what they did 50 years ago.
I have an "OREGON VEHICLE CERTIFICATE OF TITLE" for a 1954 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup. The "VIN" on that title is H 54 O 005877, which matches the vehicle serial number on the door-post ID plate.
As most of us know
there was no standardized "VIN" prior to 1981. And, for some reason, many states have no computerized vehicle records prior to 1972.
