the "solution", if you feel the need to run the radio when the engine is off, is to rewire the radio so it gets power somewhere other than the keyed accessory power, then you can save your ignition [it can fry the coil as well as the points] and just run down your battery / shorten it's life .... or you could keep a portable battery radio around for those times
