I have seen the word AD and I have been thinking it’s the generation of truck but what exactly does it mean? I was talking with my uncle who is 65 and he told me a few stories about his experiences with my grandfather and this truck. It made me smile because it was the first time I heard it and amazes me, and him, that the truck is still in good shape. One story was that he had the truck overloaded with wood from the mountains way past the capacity of the truck and stacked clear past the cattle rails he had on the bed rails. He couldn’t stop in coming down the mountain so he had to hit a stump on the side of the road and that’s why the passenger running board is all dented in. Also I guess he was adjusting the valves on the 216 motor and adjusted them too tight and bent 3 out of 6 push rods. So he pulled them out and bent them strait with a hammer and put them back in. My uncle couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw him do that instead of buy new push rods. The truck has been running ever since like that. Who knows maybe he replaced them since that time but I won’t know until I pull the engine. Just goes to show the quality of these old Chevy’s when you hear horror stories like that and they still drive down the road.
