I took my father in law for a ride in 'Tater this summer, he was watchin me go though the gears with that hi/lo switch on the shifter in fascination. Havin the switch on the knob messes with some passengers as it's obvious I just changed gears, but didn't move the lever.

The decal that was on my truck says, when going from low to high, to switch to HI, depress the clutch & release the throttle and engage the clutch. Pretty much like shifting gears. I can tell if I caught high in the rear I hear/feel it thunk as the shifter sleeve engages. Downshifting is still a bit tricky, but I do enjoy driving my old beast.

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
