If you have a filter it will share the block outlet for that. Since you have a car engine I don't know where the temp sending unit goes but it will be on the drivers side of the head and can't be mistaken because of the size and pipe threads. I'm sure Tim (tclederman) can supply a photo or service manual detail to clarify.
