Ok, back to the sender. I had my head up......I wasn't thinking of the fuel pump that was on the sender. So that has been removed, and I now understand that the sender and gauge probably are not compatable. The original sender was shot on the tank, so I may have to buy a replacement '48 sender and attach it to the S10 tank opening. May take some modification.
