Hy Billybolt, I would put the hole in the air filter body and install the tube as it was designed to be, it is a part of the engine P.C.V. system. With the tube connected to the filter no outside unfiltered air can be drawn into the engine, also no fumes coming from the engine that the P.C.V. does not capture can vent into the atmosphere, but rather they are drawn back into the engine to be burned again, hope that helps.
