The overheating won't be due directly to high speed, something else is wrong. I could explain the coolant temp if it was 110 outside, but it doesn't get that hot in SE Nebraska. Have you checked your coolant temp with a thermometer? This will verify your temp gauge, which could be wrong.
BTW - I've been through Falls City once or twice, dad was from Avoca.
