I have been running a 55 engine in my 52 with a shortened water pump, and the original 216 fan clears by about 1/8" on both pulley and radiator.
Would I do it again now that we know about the water pump relocation plate?
Absolutely not!

Seems to me short shaft water pumps should become extinct with the superior water pump adapter plate now on the scene.
