II assume that the engines were originally balanced with the clutch in place and that was why they marked them, is that correct George???
I just had my 216 engine balanced and all they wanted from the rotating mass was the crank flywheel and damper. Of course the rods, bearings, pistons, pins and rings were statically balanced also.
The clutch was rebuilt by a large truck clutch/brake rebuilder in Chicago and I asked about balancing it. They check out the pressure plate and gave it a passing grade, nothing needed to be done to it. I was told that if the PP was not disturbed by disassembly or machining that it would still be in balance. The new disc lining was symmetrical and that disc was balance.
In my youth as a parts man I sold many clutches to hot rodders who wound them up way tighter than our Stovebolts will ever go and don’t ever remember any of them being balanced before being installed.
