Unless you reverse
either the field or the armature a DC motor will not reverse. True for series (starter motors) shunt and compound.
You can reverse DC line without reversing motor.
EXCEPTION permanent magnet DC motors. In this case reversing the line reverses the armature and the motor will reverse.
