Not sure what it is though. I believe it has something to do with the mounting or clutch linkage. All chevy 6 cylinder bellhousings are interchangeable from about 1937-1962. They also interchange with GMC from about 1939- 1959. That is to say any bellhousing from this era will bolt up to your engine. It may not necessarily bolt up to your transmission or chassis. Rule of thumb is to use the bellhousing that is correct for the year range and model... 1939- 1946 truck, 1947- 1954 truck, 1955-1959 truck. Not sure how the car bellhousings changed through the years, but the trucks changed from group to group.
