I have a 12 volt battery in the truck. I know there is a resistor before the coil so with a 12 volt coil with what you are saying would mean no spark. Never had anyone explain to me actually how a coil works. That makes sense now. I appreciate the help. I changed it to a six volt coil today but I have not had a chance to try and start it. but the battery advice would help as well.
