My recommendation is to hook up all the electrical components and use it like the factory intended. I installed mine 7 years ago and never take it out of OD. The cable is just for looks once you get used to driving with the system. The components are available and you don't have to worry about tearing something up if you forget and shift into reverse. I installed two this last week and the owners love them. Fred
