A new tank and venting pieces should be as safe as anything. Replace all the hose, line, fittings, and seals and it will as good as new or better. I moved mine to the rear of the frame so I could use the space under the seat for storage, plus '37s had the filler hole under the seat. I had to lift out the passenger seat bottom to fill mine.
