I'm not so sure about the car bellhousings and the interchange, but I am 99% certain they had a different bolt pattern for the transmissions than the trucks did in 1947. Maybe you can post a picture of your bellhousing and we might be able to identify one that will allow for the modern transmissions mentioned.
