I think a conventional timing light will work fine. Most lights require only a + and - hookup, along with either a direct connection to #1 plug wire, or attaching a inductive pickup around #1 plug wire.

I don't know if your engine has timing marks on the damper, or still has the flywheel/peephole arrangement, but the timing procedure would be almost the same.

I'm not sure if your question was about the timing light, or how to actually time your engine? Maybe someone else will be along with more information.
