before you put dist. in you want engine at 0 degrees, or top dead center. as stated above you can't time it without dist in. and if dist. jumps your not getting it in all the way..using screwdriver, turn the pump where you want it, then when you put dist. in, start it a with the tang a bit to the left, so when it hits the gear it will turn a bit,line up and drop all the way in..
